Covid-19 and Legal-Social Implications for the Education Sector in Angola
Keywords:
Covid-19, Social inequalities, State of emergencyAbstract
This essay reflected on the COVID-19 pandemic and its legal-social implications in the education sector in Angola, in the period between 2019 and 2021. Based on bibliographical and documentary research, this essay substantiates analyzes around the measures resulting from declarations of a state of emergency and the situation of public calamity. It is argued that the mandatory measures of physical distancing and the use of biosafety materials, as well as the prohibition of gatherings or concentrations of more than 50 people, and the closure of daycare centers, schools and public and private universities caused a negative impact on the education sector, manifested in the suspension or termination of employment contracts between employers and workers in the education sector; in the bankruptcy of entities promoting private daycare centers, schools and universities; in the unemployment of workers in the educational sector and, consequently, in the suffering of their families. It was concluded that the legal-social implications of COVID-19 in the Education Sector in Angola reflected the country's structural problems.
