This article discusses the elements that influence the formation of tattoos, as well as the methods and tools used to create them. It also addresses their effects on the skin, the characteristics of the ink, and its role in the emergence of the details that comprise them. It also discusses the formation of identifying elements depending on the type of substance used and establishes the definition of a tattoo as a fingerprint in criminalistics techniques, and defines its formation mechanism in terms of type. To this end, historical-logical methods, scientific observation, and content analysis of documents were employed, based on a dialectical-materialist conception. The references consulted provided the theoretical knowledge necessary to understand and find appropriate solutions for dealing with criminal acts or extraordinary events where a tattoo is found on a person's anatomy, reflected in an image or video sequence.
