Abstract

The basis of commitment is responsibility. It is not possible to fulfill with quality a commitment about something specific, without a significant share of responsibility. Therefore, both concepts are closely related in the process of identifying, developing, and assessing human capital. Every professional, as part of their professional qualities, must commit to providing society and their entity with a quality service, through which they are recognized and respected. In the work environment, it is essential to fulfill work commitments, this means specifying the planned projects and objectives. Therefore, commitment is, in turn, an ability that people have to internalize the importance of fulfilling their work within the established deadlines with professionalism, responsibility and loyalty. Organizational commitment (OC) is fundamental to achieving academic excellence in universities, and educational managers play an important role as actors and promoters of an environment that generates conditions that allow teachers to commit to their institution, even in adverse situations. This article systematizes some basic theoretical references about Organizational Commitment, as a success factor in managing human capital and favoring its professional development and its contribution to the university, besides promoting values such as loyalty, sense of belonging, identification, involvement, and predisposition to teamwork, which will lead to the achievement of more effective results.

Key words: human capital; commitment; organizational commitment; critical success factor.
