Keywords:
Organizational commitment, Effective, Public management, Penitentiary system of VianaAbstract
This article aims to characterize the components that influence the organizational commitment of the staff of the Penitentiary Establishment of Viana, Angola. The research, of a descriptive nature and quantitative approach, used a structured questionnaire with nine closed questions, addressing the affective, normative and instrumental dimensions of organizational commitment. With a random sample of 240 participants, the results indicated that the affective and normative components, related to emotional attachment and the sense of moral duty, are the main determinants of organizational commitment. On the other hand, the instrumental component, associated with benefits and rewards, proved to be irrelevant to the context studied. This study contributes to the improvement of human resources management policies in the Angolan public sector, particularly in the penitentiary environment.
